Kabul New City (KNC)

Kabul New City (KNC) is an urban development mega project initiated by the Afghan government in 2006 and approved by the cabinet in 2009, covering an area of 722 square kilometers in the north-east of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Designed with the support of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in DehSabz, the project is envisioned, as a comprehensive urban development, a response to the challenges of Kabul, the current capital,

The city is strategically planned to unfold in two main stages over a span of 30 years. However, due to multiple challenges, including insecurity, the project’s implementation remained behind schedule.  In August 2023, the construction of parcel B, the first phase of Kabul New City was inaugurated through the signing of a contract between the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MoUDH) and Khawar Construction Company (KCC) as the developer.

Kabul New City is planned to offer a full spectrum of facilities of a modern metropolis and accommodate three million inhabitants, providing a substantial solution to the rapidly growing population’s needs in the capital.
